Facility Operations Include:

Facility Operations Include:

  • Opened in 1991
  • Receives approximately 530 tons of household and commercial trash daily
  • Receives approximately 40 tons of old tires per month
  • Originally purchased 246 acres for the landfill, purchased additional 120 acres from adjacent mining operation
  • Garbage cells 1 & 2 are 28 acres combined, reached capacity in 2010 and have been partially closed with plastic liner placed on top and three sides, the unlined side will have garbage placed on it from the next cell
  • Cell 3 is 24 acres, and is currently an active garbage cell with approximately four more years of space available
  • Construction has begun on Cell 4 which will be a 30 acre cell and provide approximately 26 years of space.
  • The landfill property has approximately 60 years of space available for garbage cells and disposal
  • East convenience center opened for operation in February 1994Scrap metal sorting and storage area
  • West convenience center opened for operation in December 1996

  • Serves more than 300,000 customers per year at three locations
  • Responsible for disposal of solid waste for the entire County including residents in the City of Brooksville
  • Responsible for curbside collection and recycling in unincorporated Hernando County
  • Provides for solid waste and hazardous waste enforcement
