Post Date:11/12/2020 9:44 AM

EOC ALERT - Hernando County Government - Hernando County Emergency Management

CURRENT SITUATION

The National Hurricane Center has canceled all watches and warnings for Hernando County at this time. A Coastal Flood Advisory has been issued for our area through one more high tide cycle. Water levels will continue to run 1-3 feet above normal tides through this afternoon

The center of Tropical Storm Eta is located approximately 10 miles west of Gainesville. Eta is moving toward the northeast near 14 mph, and this general motion is expected to continue through this morning. Eta should emerge into the western Atlantic this afternoon. The storm is expected to accelerate over the western Atlantic and move parallel to, but offshore of, the Carolinas before heading well east of the mid-Atlantic coast by late Friday.

Eta could re-intensify as a non-tropical cyclone on Friday before becoming absorbed by a larger non-tropical cyclone on Saturday. Water levels remain elevated and will gradually decrease throughout the day as the storm moves inland.

Residents are encouraged to monitor river levels over the next several days due to widespread heavy rainfall that has occurred over the past 72 hours.

National Hurricane Center 5-day forecast for Tropical Storm Eta

Wind: Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 50 mph with higher gusts.

Surge: A Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect for our area until 3 p.m. today. Minor saltwater flooding of low-lying areas may occur near the coastline. Temporary closure of some coastal roads is possible, especially during high tide.

Rain: 3-6 inches of rain is forecast for our area.
