Adopt-A-Park
The Adopt-A-Park initiative is a community engagement project that allows for residents, families, and organizations to select from a list of parks in Hernando County and choose to adopt it. By doing so, the park will be adopted by the individual or organization for a minimum of 2 years with a commitment of 4 service projects a year. Each park that has been adopted will have a sign displayed with the organizations name or acronym to be displayed.
Any group or organization must designate a liaison for Parks and Recreation staff to coordinate their service projects. Volunteers are required to go through a safety training once a year and participants must wear a safety vest while they are on-site volunteering. Youth volunteers are eligible to participate with an adult supervisor during service project outings. Individuals and groups are encouraged to bring equipment and materials for garbage collection. Materials also may be supplied from the Parks and Recreation Department during normal business hours.
