Stormwater
Hernando County Stormwater Management provides information regarding topography, stormwater drainage, watershed management plans, flood study data, and Capital Improvement Projects.
It also reviews development plans, responds to flood complaints, provides stormwater system maintenance, assists other county departments in drainage matters, and manages the County's National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permit.
Responsibilities include:
- Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) Drainage Retention Areas design, permitting, and permit maintenance.
- Drainage Project Oversite
- Watershed Management
- Floodplain Mapping
- Stormwater Pollution
- Volunteers Programs (Adopt-A-Road, stormwater stenciling, community clean-up, etc.)
- Community Awareness and Outreach Programs
Stormwater Speaker's Bureau
The Hernando County Stormwater Management Section offers presentations to community groups during the day and evening hours. Several programs are available on topics including stormwater management, flooding, geology, weather patterns, pet waste, and the Adopt A Road Program.
