Hernando County Veteran Services has partnered with Mid-Florida to operate the shuttle service that transports veterans from the Brooksville VA Outpatient Clinic to James A. Haley VA Medical Center in Tampa. Veterans wishing to sign up for this service, or schedule a ride, need to contact MidFlorida at (352) 799-1510. This service is only for veterans, and only transports to James A. Haley VA Medical Center in Tampa; it does not transport to other area hospitals or treatment facilities, nor to the VA facility in New Port Richey. The Tampa VA offers its own internal shuttle service to off-campus VA facilities; patients needing this would have to contact the VA (813) 972-2000 extension 5683 to confirm that a shuttle is currently operational and suits their appointment time, and arrange that part of the transport on their own.

Veterans using the shuttle are not permitted to bring an additional person unless a doctor’s note specifies that an escort is needed to get into and out of the shuttle and navigate the hospital to ensure the veteran arrives to their scheduled appointment on time. COVID-19 restrictions may prevent the escort from entering the hospital; please speak with the department the scheduled appointment is with to determine if the escort will be allowed into the hospital. Veterans using the shuttle need to be ambulatory, as the shuttle operators are not permitted to assist with entering and disembarking from the shuttle. Assistive devices and walkers can be placed in the rear of the shuttle if needed. This transport service is not intended to provide medical transport; please contact the VA Transportation Department (813) 972-2000 extension 5683 to arrange that specific service if needed.

The shuttle is only intended to accommodate appointments between 8:30 am and 12 Noon, including appointment with off-campus facilities and prescription pick-ups. If you know your appointment is later than this timeframe, please call to schedule your appointment to better fit this schedule, as the shuttle will depart the Tampa VA Hospital no later than 1:00 pm.
