PURPOSE


The Affordable Housing Advisory Committee shall review the established policies and procedures, ordinance, land development regulations, and adopted local government comprehensive plan of the appoint local govern and small recommend specific actions or initiative to encourage or facilitate affordable housing while protecting the ability of the property to appreciate in value.  The recommendation may include modifications or repeal of existing policies, procedures, ordinances, resolution. Or plan provisions; the creation of exceptions applicable to affordable housing; or the adoption of new policies, procedural regulations, ordinance, or plan provisions, including recommendation to amend the local government comprehensive plan and corresponding regulations, ordinance and other policies.


APPOINTMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS


According to Florida Statute, 420.9076, The advisory committee must name at 8 but not more than 11 committee members and specify their terms.  The Committee must consist of one locally elected official from each county or municipality participating in the State Housing Initiative Partnership Program and one representative from at least six of the categories below.

  • Citizen actively engaged in the residential home building industry in connection with affordable housing.
  • Citizen actively engaged in the banking or mortgage banking industry in connection with affordable housing.
  • Citizen who is representative of those areas of labor actively engaged in home building in connection with affordable housing.
  • Citizen actively engaged as an advocate for low-income persons in connection with affordable housing.
  • Citizen actively engaged as a for-profit provider of affordable housing.
  • Citizen actively engaged as a not-for-profit provider of affordable housing.
  • Citizen actively engaged as a real estate professional in connection with affordable housing.
  • Citizen actively serves on the local planning agency pursuant to Florida Statutes Section 163.3174.
  • Citizen who resides within the jurisdiction of the local governing body making the appointments.
  • Citizen who represents employers within the jurisdiction.
  • Citizen who represents essential services personnel, as defined in the local housing assistance plan.

    ** Citizens are welcome to apply at any time, however applications are only considered when there is a vacancy.

TERM LIMITS


Three years.

 
MEETING FREQUENCY, TIME AND LOCATION


Meetings are held monthly at the Hernando County Government Center, 20 North Main Street, Room 160 (John Law Ayers Commission Chambers room 160).
