Health & Human Services
- The Department of Children and Families determines eligibility for Food, Cash, and Medical assistance. To apply log onto https://dcf-access.dcf.state.fl.us/access/index.do. If you need assistance with the application process, access to a computer or help sending information to the Department of Children and Families, there are several community partners to help. These partners will either provide you a computer to apply, assist with your application process and documents, or both. To find a location near you visit https://access-web.dcf.state.fl.us/CPSLookup/search.aspx . Health and Human Services is one of those partners. A paper application can be downloaded from http://www.myflfamilies.com/service-programs/access-florida-food-medical-assistance-cash/common-access-florida-forms or obtained from our office located at: 621 W. - You can apply for disability as soon as you become disabled. If you are 18 years of age or older, unable to work because of a medical condition that is expected to last at least 12 months or result in death and have not been denied in the last 60 days. You can apply online at https://www.ssa.gov/applyfordisability/ or call 1-800-772-1213, if deaf or hard of hearing you can call, TTY 1-800-325-0778, or visit your local Social Security office.
How do I get information on the Neighborhood Stabilization Program and/or obtain an NSP3 application?

I am not eligible for Medicaid, Medicare or Healthcare Marketplace. How do I get help with my healthcare needs?
If you are not eligible for Medicaid, Medicare or coverage through the Healthcare Marketplace. Hernando County has two resources that may be able to help with your primary health care needs. Premier Health Care, which provides family medicine, pediatrics, woman's health, dental, behavioral health and special programs. To apply for services with Premier contact them at http://premierhc.org/ or call 352-518-2000. Crescent Community Clinic is a local resource that provides chronic health care, dental services, and mental health services regardless of your ability to pay. To apply visit their website at http://www.crescentclinic.org or call 352-610-9916. Hernando County Health Department is still a resource for Clinical and Nutrition Services, Wellness Programs, Reproductive Health and Family Planning, Environmental Health, and Infectious Disease services among many others. Please visit their website at http://hernando.floridahealth.gov/.- We encourage residents to contact Hernando County Housing Authority at 352-754-4160 to see if you are eligible for any of their housing rental programs, Section 8 or NSP Rental Housing. If you are not eligible for their programs, the waiting list is closed, or the waitlist is over 60 days, Health and Human Services maintains a list of rentals in the area that may meet your needs. Several of the apartment listings also have a wait list, but do not be discouraged. Please continue to call for the next available vacancy. - The Department of Children and Families determines eligibility for food, cash, and medical assistance. Feel free to contact them for issues with your case by calling the Access Florida customer call center at 1-866-762-2237. If assistance is still needed or you are having problems understanding or contacting an Access Florida representative, a Department of Children and Families Community Partner can help. - To apply for healthcare coverage other than Medicaid or Medicare, you can apply on-line at https://www.healthcare.gov/. Also, Health and Human Services has a certified application counselor to help with questions and the enrollment process. Please feel free to contact our office for help if needed at 352-540-4338 or request an appointment on-line.
We strongly recommend applying for food stamps with the Department of Children and Families, Access Florida website at http://www.myflorida.com/accessflorida/. We also suggest applying for the Woman Infant and Children Program (WIC), which is a nutrition program for Woman, Infants, and Children that provides healthy foods, , breastfeeding support, nutrition education and counseling and referrals for health care at no cost. WIC is a service of the Hernando County Health Department and can be reached at 352-540-6800. More information and eligibility requirement's is located on the Hernando County Health Department's website at http://hernando.floridahealth.gov/. However, we are aware that even with the various assistance mentioned your needs may still be greater than what is provided or you may not be eligible for those programs. Hernando County Health and Human Services maintains a list of food pantries and hot meal sites that may be able to supplement or assist with your dietary needs. - There is no Social Security Office located in Hernando County. The closest location to Hernando County residents is in Pasco County. We recommend residents living in the Brooksville, Nobleton, Ridge Manor, and Masaryktown areas visit the Social Security Office located at 36630 Adair Road, Dade City, FL 33525. Residents that reside in the Spring Hill, Weeki Wachee and Hernando Beach area, we suggest visiting the office located at 8661 Citizens Drive, Suite 100, New Port Richey, FL 34654.
